Beaten and platinumed Dying Reborn. It only took 1 hour. It was created by a Chinese studio, and is a first person puzzle game, in which the person needs to find a way to escape a series of rooms, so he can save his lady friend , whom has been kidnapped by some psychopath. The story doesn't make you care about the characters, and the gameplay has no tenseness as there's no time limits on any of the puzzles, and you can't die, so you have as much time as you need to solve the puzzles. The voice acting is some of the worst I've ever heard. It's story/atmosphere have some disturbing aspects early on, but the game feels repetitive and dull quickly due to it failing to make you care about the characters.

Picked up Demon Gaze 2. It's like a mix of Etrian Odyssey and SMT. Basically you need to find your way through dungeons, and fight demons, and you can recruit demons, but it's style is more quirky than that of SMT. I like how it tries to stay traditional with turn-based, and I like it's colorful style. The game also allows you to date demons. It's developer Kadokawa has developed some other well-known games/manga such as Lunar and Black Rock Shooter.

In Demon Gaze 2, you can touch the demons when you go on dates with them, and if you touch them in the right spot, you make them happy (increase their affection). Some female demons like you touching their breasts.

It turns out, much of Demon Gaze 2's gameplay revolves around grinding gems, so you can gain control of areas in order to fight bosses. The quest variety isn't that great compared to other dungeon crawler style JRPGs. Even though you're constantly moving through dungeon style layouts, the game does a good job to give a variety of environments, such as dungeons that look like forest or towns. The story so far has been entertaining, not because the story itself is good, but because the characters are likable. The visual novel style scenes look nicely drawn and colorful, but the environments look a bit rough.

I've completed all but one of the story paths in Chaos Child. I'm not very impressed by it's story, it's pretty much a murder mystery with some Sci Fi thrown in. Don't really care about the characters, but it might be because I haven't played Chaos Head (it's predecessor) yet. I put my expectations too high , since Chaos Child is set in the same universe as Stein Gate, and I'm a big Stein Gate fan, it's story uses concepts such as quantum physics and time travel in an intelligent way, and it's characters grow on you. The reason I haven't completed the remaining story path for Chaos Child is because the game locks you out of certain choices even on a new playthrough if you don't make choices in a certain order, which defeats the purpose of playing a visual novel. This means I had to delete the save data and have to redo 3 hours worth of gameplay.

Finally platinumed Chaos Child. I agree with the narrator of the video guide who said it's such a boring visual novel, and feels much longer than the 3 hours it takes to platinum it. Since the game locks you out of the platinum if you make just 1 wrong choice (even if you start a new game) and forces you to delete your save file (and in my case, have to delete and reinstall the game since I'm playing a digital version of it on Vita), it makes it even more annoying.

Started playing Ys VIII. It's premise is interesting, in that it centers on a group of characters who get shipwrecked, and it has an ''island survivor'' type theme. The battle systems for the Y's games are known for being fast and fluid, and focusing on skill over character stats. The mysterious tropical island adds intrigue and it's beautiful. P.S I've taken a break from Demon Gaze 2, because I'm more in a mood to explore tropical islands, rather than navigate through intricate maze-like dungeons.

Played a fair way into Ys VIII. It's survivor island theme is still keeping things interesting. The fetch quests don't feel dull, because they're related to survival, such as catching fish (which is kinda relaxing),and the fish can be used to make soup that heals your characters, and the fish bones can be used to craft other items. And you're searching for wood, rocks, iron etc to make watch towers, and barricades since beasts often attack your encampment. The environmental puzzles have an interesting layout, because rather than moving items in a certain order, you need to find enough castaways(survivors from the shipwreck) whom can help you perform tasks such as moving a boulder or debris so you can pass through an area. This means you actually feel incentive to look for shipwreck survivors. You can also do a fair bit of climbing , and the amount of exploration and ways you can interact with the environment make the game feel somewhat like a Zelda game. I actually like the characters because they are like real people, (similar to how people like the characters in Persona games because they're like real people with everyday problems). Even a character whom is a fishermen is interesting when he talks about his life on the island, growing up and learning how to fish and the dangers he's experience, and the stories of the other characters are enough to make them interesting, while being the sort of people we can relate to. The island is lovely to explore, beautiful beaches and reefs, and lush jungles and mountains.

In my free time, I'm still slowly progressing through Ys VIII. I've mentioned how the island is mysterious, but the story itself took a Sherlock Holmes style twist, and there's mysterious historical events shown to you from time to time, which are presented artistically and add more intrigue to the story, as well as plot events shown from the perspective of other mysterious characters . I like how the story is like many stories in one, the last game I've played that did this so good is Fire Emblem Awakening.
Later, I'll give Ys Origins a try. It's set nearly 1000 years before the events of Ys 1 , hence I'm interested in seeing another main character besides Adol. There's many games in the Ys series, and just like with Zelda , the stories are chronologically linked. I've played Ys Celceta( which is set around the time of Ys IV ) as well as Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim.

It seemed to be more Zelda-like than a proper RPG so I got distracted. I did watch a rather interesting anime about it once though.

I decided to give my NES classic a bit of a tryout today. I beat Super Mario Bros (using save states of course). It's nice to finally beat the game that revolutionized gaming on an official Nintendo console ( I beat it using save states on PC emulators previously ). I also gave Super Mario Bros 3 a quick play. Just to see it's charming style once again. I played Tecmo Bowl for the first time ever. I can score literally on every drive, but so does the AI because I haven't figured out how to tackle properly yet.

I've been playing through Norn 9, which is an otome visual novel. Like with every other otome VN I've played, there is some sort of interesting story going on, but the otome theme purposely overpowers the main story, and makes the story become like a chick flick, with major events happening in the background. The premise is people are lured to a spaceship, and it pulls them back in time, to the early 1900's, and they meet other people who have special abilities, who need to act like guardians, and mysterious villains show up. This shows the difference in psychology between men and women ,because many males( including me) like romance in a story, but we like the narrative to focus mainly on the main plot, and romance can kinda build it's way into the story. Stories written for women focus more on the romance aspect, while the main plot takes a back seat more often to make way for the romance/personal drama. The story could have been so much more...

I saw Arcania (Gothic 4) for dirt cheap , so I've decided to give it a try. I can see what people mean when they refer to it as a ''poor man's Witcher'', but so far it's been kinda fun, I like how it presents a love story to you right at the start, and the combat is relaxing, even if it doesn't have much depth. The realistic visual style, combined with a nice artistic style such as small wooden houses with hay roof tops looks nice. Sometimes I need a change from anime-style, or the colorfulness of JRPGs.

My PS3 keeps shutting down when I try to play Gothic 4, same when I try to play many other games. The only reason I choose to play the PS3 version is it has trophies. Maybe one day I'll play it on PC. I was enjoying it, despite what critics say, I like a love story, and it's darker style of fantasy. When you encounter a witch whom has no eyes, and she has a creepy laughter, it's gotta be good. I guess next I'll move onto Ray Gigant, I'm going to play it on Vita since the Vita version has trophies (it's also on PC). It's a JRPG, that's a dungeon crawler, with a story influenced by Neon Genesis Evangelion, and is very visual novel heavy. I've heard good things about it, except the game is too easy.
