I've beaten the main story mode for Senran Kagura Estival Versus. Like I've said in a previous post, the battle system has a lot of depth. The boss battles feel like a 3D fighting game, rather than Dynasty Warriors. There's a fair bit of strategy and skill required since jumping and aerial attacks and delicate timing play a big part in your success. So,even though the game makes the women characters lose their clothes and have their large breasts bounce around during battle, the gameplay is awesome as well. My favorite character is Kafuru, the Dolphin princess. She uses water guns as weapons, and is accompanied by a talking Dolphin. The game has a character that reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles Alicia Melchiott named Ryoubi.

At the moment,I'm working on earning Senran Kagura's platinum trophy, but it will be a grindfest. I will split up my gaming time between working on Senran's plat, and my playthrough of World of Final Fantasy. On our previous site,I mentioned how I was playing World of Final Fantasy, and I made it up to chapter 5,before I became preoccupied with other things. I mentioned the game is beautiful and charming in an old school JRPG style of way. I also want to add,I love the way the ATB adds a whole heap of strategy to the combat. You can see who's turn it is next during battle, and you can gamble and choose to go for another attack(rather than healing)if you think the ATB will give you successive turns,so you can attack an enemy one more time, than heal. It also adds a defensive element to battles, because some bosses deal very heavy damage, but you can negate much of the damage from their attacks by defending, and the ATB helps you decide when you think is a good time to defend, and when is a good time to attack/heal. The stacking thing allows for some interesting customization options. The towns I've visit so far are a bit small, but charming, and the grassy plains, caves, and forest filled with lots of monsters that I've trekked through so far have made the adventure enjoyable. The CGI's and beautiful music help add to the experience.

I got pissed with the sheer amount of cheating and cheapness in that battle though and it put me off and I haven't touched the game since.

@endobr Ben told me something similar,he said he is stuck near the end of the game. I better make sure I prepare my characters and Mirages before I get near the end.

I totally forgot about my playthrough of Persona 5. I'm up to the spaceship dungeon. On a previous blog,I mentioned how the game is addictive, but it makes me care about the characters too much, and it makes me sad if I cannot help them all, since Persona games place a limit on how many activities you can do in one day. That's why I needed to take a break from Persona 5,because it was emotionally draining when I found myself caring about so many characters, because the characters are just like real people, with their own personality and real-world style problems. The game has many likable girl characters, who are potential girlfriends, such as:- The cheerful and bubbly Ann
The sexy punk rock doctor named Takemi A flirtatious woman who hangs out at a bar with an interesting past named Ohya.
I choose Ann be my Waifu, because I found her to be the most fun girl, even though I thought some of the other girls who have a more oriental appearance are prettier. My character and Ann ended up going to Hawaii, and I saw a nice scene with them watching the sunset together, and I like how Persona 5 takes the characters to a tropical atmosphere(since SMT games tend to have a darker/urbanized environments). I still want to make Takemi and Ohya be part-time girlfriends for my character The game deals with lots of real-world issues, such as bulling, the seriousness of computer hacking, greed, and a variety of mental/psychological issues. I've been playing the game for 50 hours, and only roughly 1/2 way through the game. I have a love/hate feeling in regards to the stealth mechanics in the game, because using stealth adds more depth to gameplay, and gives you a big tactical advantage over enemies, but if you are spotted by an enemy,it's difficult to outrun them, and being spotted gives the enemies the first turns, which makes what should be short and easy battles drag on. The dungeons also have you doing things such as climbing and crawling though air vents(things not present in Persona 3 and 4),so in some ways,it feels like I'm play a bit of Metal Gear Solid. However, the dungeons have intricate layouts and puzzles(much more than in P3 and P4),which means it's easy to get stuck in a dungeon without a guide, especially since dungeons require you to jump down onto lower sections of the dungeon, and this sections are easy to miss. However,Persona 5's dungeons provide a more rewarding feeling when you make it to the end of them,or when you find a safe room in them, because they're not linear and predictable like the ones in Persona 3 and 4. I'm looking forward to playing more of Persona 5,in fact,I think I will split my gaming time up between Senran and Persona 5.I guess I kinda forgot about playing Persona 5 because I've been playing games on Vita much lately, and I can lay down while I play them.

I still need to finish off Persona 5. I'm up to the final dungeon, but it's a big one.
And I chose Ann as well. She's the most fun one.

Finally platinumed Senran Kagura Estival. The grinding could have been more enjoyable if there was more interesting character stories. By the time you're done with the character stories, you've nearly got enough zeni to buy all the remaining collectibles anyways. I was happy to see at least some of the character stories have romance though, which gives the game a warmer feeling overall.

I've decided to continue on with World of Final Fantasy, instead of Persona 5,mainly because it's more relaxing to game on the VITA. I'm up to chapter 7,but I've spent a fair amount of time doing side quests and level grinding. The side quests in the game are interesting, because they're referred to as 'intervention' quests. They show you story events happening elsewhere in the world, and you can choose to fight the bad guys who are responsible for those events. What I like about the intervention quests is they make you care about the story elements in them, because their stories are well presented and show you how they affect things happening in the world. I like how instead of roaming the world looking for intervention quests, you are taken directly to where the bad guys are instead. I like how the world which the game is set in (Grymoire) has influences from the other FF games(including towns such as Cornelia from the original FF and Saronia from FF3),and the game has characters from many FF games that make an appearance(I won't say which ones, since many of you guys on here haven't played through World of FF yet). The setting is interesting,in that the incarnations of Cornelia,Saranoia, and the characters from other FF games that exist in Grymoire are all native to Grymoire, the other FF characters and towns from other FF games weren't sucked/drawn into Grymoire, and that they are part of Grymoire. Even though the FF characters are not the exact same characters they were in other games, they have a lot of similarities, but certain differences that link to Grymoire and the main storyline. This makes them still retain the charm/attributes that made you like them before, but they have interesting/intriguing ways they link to the main story,or have their own version of similar events they were involved with in other games. SPOILERSYuna is in the game, and you will meet her for the first time in a forest environment near a lake, while she is summoning pyreflies, and it will remind you of Macalania, and you hear the beautiful music from FFX playing. Yuna in world of FF is not the same as Yuna in FFX,but she does have many similarities and intriguing things about her. You will see what I mean when you play the game. It's also charming to see Yuna in chibi form. END OF SPOILERSWhen I travelled through an area with a freezing climate,it made my journey feel more epic, because of the atmosphere of the bleak sky and snow around me,then I found a cabin that's an INN,with a warm fireplace. It made it feel like it's an old school JRPG. Then I made it through an icy ridge with some weird puzzles that have you sliding across ice,and you need to figure out the combinations of where you need to slide. I fought an optional boss that was too powerful for me(even though my characters are fairly highly levelled for where I'm up to in the story),then I got a game over, and had to travel through the snow and icy ridges once again... This time I fought the boss that's story-related,now I need to travel to Saronia.

Games I've played this year, and my game of the year for 2017.
I was expecting Root Letter to have a good story, being a visual novel, but I was impressed with it's story creativity and beautiful artstyle. It starts off as a mystery story, about trying to find a girl who was a penpal of the protagonist, who disappeared 15 years ago.The story takes some big twists, and becomes much more. Each story arc has a very different feel, and focuses on different concepts,so it really does feel like numerous different stories that link together. It's hard to explain why these vastly different story arcs linking together make the story very indulging and interesting, but I'll say the darker scenes have a bit of a Noir style feel, and I like how the artstyle is beautiful, but still looks mature, and I like the natural scenery and beautiful lakes. Even though it's a visual novel,it's similar to Danganronpa in that you can visit different areas as much as you want, although the environments aren't 3D,but you can interact with the environments and look for clues to solve the mysteries. The Wolf Among Us is about how characters from fairy tales live in modern-day Manhattan to escape a totalitarian regime. You play as a human version of the Big Bad Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood, who is a detective, and him and Snow White are trying to investigate a murder, but their investigation takes them to a path of extortion,mafia-style syndicates, prostitution and murder. The story is entertaining, especially when the characters can still use their attributes they used in the fairy tales, such as how Wolf can transform into a wolf, and trolls can transform into a troll, which makes for some very bloody battles. I like the noir style atmosphere, and the music which makes it feel like an engaging crime drama. Even though I'm not a big fan of the Batman universe,I really enjoyed Telltale's version of the Batman universe. As you'd expect,it has a darker and more mature style, and the story does a good job of showing how all the villains came to being who they are,but through different events compared to what happened in other versions of the Batman universe. The narrative does a good job of making you both like and hate the villains, and the QTE made good use of Batman's abilities, and I really like the artstyle. Since this has a more darker and mature story, things such as sex,and brutality come into it. Tales of the Borderlands took me by surprise, because I enjoyed it's story, despite the Borderlands FPS having a dull story. Basically, the story for Tales of the Borderlands feels like Mad Max meets Firefly at times, and sometimes the story was a bit over the top,but the characters were likable enough and the story presentation was good enough to keep me interested. I've already done a few blogs about Senran Kagura Estival already. Tales of Zestiria is an open world Tales game and it has quite a dark story that inspired Tales of Berseria, which is known as the darkest and most mature Tales game. I like how the story for Zestiria has an almost pagan/shamanistic feel to it,which is a nice change from Tales games having a light-hearted mood. The fully 3D open world is a nice addition,it's nice to explore the landscapes and see beautiful scenery. The battle system added some good elements of strategy and unpredictability by allowing party members to merge together to make more powerful characters with certain advantages/weaknesses. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has the best Tekken gameplay I've experienced, although it's story is a bit lacking. Other games I've played this year for the first time include injustice(I wasn't impressed since I prefer Japanese fighting games)and Sly 2(which was ok but too long),Ratchet and Clank Nexus(I was enjoying it until a glitch stopped my progress).I've also played a bunch of indie games, but none of them are really worth a mention. I've spent a fair amount of time playing Super Street Fighter 2,and a modded Street Fighter 2 CE on Kawaks, since I can easily get into the mood to play them. My game of the year is... Persona 5. Even though I'm roughly half way through it,the fact I've put 50 hours into it shows how captivating it is. The reason I took breaks from it,despite being busy is the game makes me care about the characters too much. For people who haven't played a Persona game, they allow you to spend time with NPCs,and help them, but you have a limited amount of time per day you can spend with characters,as well as doing other tasks such as trying to save the world, going to school, working, studying etc. And often, the characters you want to spend time with will be busy,or you'll need to do certain things to make them like you such as being smart enough(which means you need to make your character study a lot which consumes many game days)etc.Since Persona 5 made me care about the characters a lot,but I felt like it was difficult to spend time with them, and help them,it became a bit overwhelming... Especially since Persona allows your character to have multiple love interests, and even though my character has a girlfriend, there's other girls who like my characters, and those other girls are very appealing in certain ways too... Besides the character bonding,Persona 5 has a story that focuses on many issues that affects all of us,such as bulling, harassment, blackmail, the severity of computer hacking etc. It's turn-based system has the typical Persona style unpredictability and strategic depth, and the use of stealth adds more gameplay depth overall I just need to find another 50+ hours that I can use to finish Persona 5... My game of the year winners from 1983 until 2017:-2017-Persona 5 2016-The Eden of Grisaia 2015-The Witcher 3 2014-Ar Nosurge 2013-Fire Emblem Awakening 2012-The Last Story 2011-Yakuza 4 2010-Heavy Rain 2009-Star Ocean The Last Hope 2008-Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core 2007-Persona 3 2006-Kingdom of Paradise AKA Key of Heaven(PAL release date) 2005-Jade Empire 2004-Clannad 2003-The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker 2002-Shenmue 2(Xbox version) 2001-Final Fantasy X 2000-Final Fantasy IX 1999-Final Fantasy VIII 1998-The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 1997-Final Fantasy VII 1996-Super Mario 64 1995-Phantasy Star IV 1994-Donkey Kong Country 1993-Disney's Aladdin(SEGA MEGA DRIVE/GENESIS version) 1992-Sonic The Hedgehog 2(SEGA MEGA DRIVE/GENESIS version) 1991-The Legend of Zelda A Link To The Past 1990-Super Mario World(Japanese release date) 1989-Mother 1988-Phantasy Star 1987-Final Fantasy(Japanese release date) 1986-Starflight 1985-Super Mario Bros 1984-Paperboy 1983-Ultima III

I've platinumed XBlaze Lost Memories. For people who don't know,it's a prequel to the Blazblue fighting games, but is a visual novel. I must say it's one of the dullest visual novels I've read. It feels unnecessary and over dramatizes things in an attempt to make it feel like it's a deep story. The game also has dungeon crawling elements, which are done in a 2D top-down viewpoint, and there isn't much depth to the dungeon crawling, there is no enemies to fight,no real puzzles. You're just trying to find memories represented as spheres of light which unlock story elements, and navigating through the fairly linear dungeons. The only reason I played this game is it is a PS Plus game, and has an easy platinum. I want to add, there's another visual novel prequel to Blazblue named 'Code Embryo' which actually has an interesting story, with a lot more Sci Fi in it's story, and has somewhat interesting character stories, which show the events leading up to the post apocalyptic event(Black Beast)which killed most of the world's population. Lost Memories is actually a sequel to Code Embryo, but doesn't really expand well on Code Embryo's story,it tries to be a prequel to a prequel, while being a sequel to a prequel, but doesn't really add anything interesting to the story. Lost Memories does have some beautiful artwork though, such as nice Japanese influenced cities surrounded by beautiful nature, and near beautiful blue water. And there is pool scenes with very busty and curvy women in bikinis.

I picked up Adventure of Mana for a cheap price. It's a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure, which was released for the Game Boy is 1991. It's gameplay feels like a mix of Zelda and 16-Bit RPG. I don't know how the controls were in the original version, but the controls for the remake feel very fluid, and the game is very charming. Being released in 1991,it still has some of the 1980's style fantasy in the story presentation and character designs, which I love.

Started playing Psycho-Pass. It's a visual novel, based on the anime. It's story takes place in an authoritarian future, where public sensors scan the mental state of every passing person. Every person's aptitude, psychological condition and stress levels are monitored, and some sort of algorithm is used to determine the potential of someone commiting a crime. It sounds interesting,so I'm looking forward to experiencing it's story.
