I finished watching the first episode of the Mandalorian and I must say it's off to a promising start. But, if I can be honest, I think there's still a ton of room to improve and expand upon, seeing how this is the first episode of what may very well be one of the more intriguing Star Wars spinoffs I've seen since Rebels. Disney seems to be so confident in this series that it has already renewed it for Season Two. Needless to say, its chances are very good, but now it's got two whole seasons to prove itself.
That being said, the main character, as of now, is a blank slate. We only get snippets of his past through flashbacks. At this point, we know the Mandalorian isn't his name, it identifies where he came from. We know he suffered a tragic past that resulted in the deaths of loved ones. And we know this story takes place five years after Return of the Jedi and a few years before the Force Awakens; after the fall of the Empire, before the rise of the First Order.
It's often been said that the main character is a Clint Eastwood-esque archetype---right down to the gravelly voice and mannerisms. They're absolutely right. In fact, he rarely ever speaks until the latter half, where he and an IG-11 droid invade a bounty outpost to procure a bounty for a client. (That entire sequence was the best part of that entire episode.) Visually, the Mandalorian looks stunning. I felt like a tourist taking in the sights. For a TV streaming series, the visual effects are impressive---though not quite on par with big budget films. As I said, the final minutes of the first episode were the highlight. It just took a while for the momentum to build. The main character never once takes off the helmet, but then again neither did Boba Fett, so I guess that's part of the charm. It has been hinted that the Mandalorian will at some point be unmasked as his character develops. Overall, I enjoyed my time with it----Dave Filoni proves once again that he knows the Star Wars universe better than Abrams, way better than Rian Johnson, way better than even Disney themselves. And the final reveal at the very, very end was the clincher for me to invest in this for the long haul. All I can say is
{OMG.} Baby Yoda

The second episode was a little slow, but at least we're now getting acquainted to the baby Yoda, who is actually 50 years old. He is arguably the star of the episode. I was also surprised to see the Jawas in this episode, along with their Sandcrawler. This is a HUGE indicator that the Mandalorian is either on the planet of Tatooine or Jakku, since Jawas are native to desert climates. I am loving Kulil at the moment. But this may be the last we'll see of him for a while, hopefully he'll reappear at some point in the future. I hope they expand upon his character, but I am assuming they are going to focus almost entirely on the baby Yoda and how he fits within the story. The Star Wars series seems better suited for television, I think. The movies have not been well received. And as me and Uesugi-dono pointed out, Dave Filoni is pretty much this generation's George Lucas. I have spoken!

Given the technical aptitude of Jawas, and the fact that we've seen them off world before, one must conclude they can be a space-faring civilization. Edit: Original Trilogy The Mandalorian

Edit: Original Trilogy The Mandalorian I must have missed that description about Kulil. Okay, so it ain't Tatooine, but it ...... sure does look like it. At least I know what Jawas like to eat!
