Japan have won the most gold medals for baseball, as well as the most world classics, even though baseball is America's pasttime WAS. Baseball WAS America's pasttime. Football supplanted it during my childhood and now has reached religious status. God loves Football, that's why all the players thank him for their touchdowns. I still prefer baseball.

So the FIFA(soccer) world cup has begun.
I was going to support Netherlands since I have some Dutch friends, but Netherlands didn't even qualify. I can't support Thailand, since Thailand didn't qualify (Thailand are not not good at full field soccer, but are a top 10 team at futsal(the small arena version of soccer). i will not support a certain country beginning with A, and as much as I love Japan, most otakus will be supporting Japan, and it puts me off. I won't support copy cat Korea either.
Maybe I'll support Germany since they're nearly the same as Dutch.
It's usually Germany,Brazil,Argentina,Spain as the top teams anyways.

Germany upset by Mexico . The style Mexico uses reminds me of American football, because they like to burn defenders using speed and slant-style routes, rather than trying to slowly dissect opposition defenses, which is the traditional way of playing soccer.
Brazil drew with Switzerland, which means they failed to win their opening game of a WC for the first time since 1978. It also means Brazil has failed to win their 3 latest WC matches(dating back to 2014).
Argentina drew with Iceland. Iceland have done well to qualify, being a nation with only 300 000 people, and then drawing a match with powerhouse Argentina is a great effort.
The most expensive team France beat Australia, and as I expected, the Australian players/fans are bitching about the referees like usual.

Down to the final 16 in FIFA world cup. Big surprise to see Germany not progress past the group stage for the first time in their history. I was actually cheering for Germany, but after their performance against Sweden where they got away with committed 2 fouls in the penalty area when Sweden had goal scoring opportunities , I fell out of favor with them, and started admiring the bravery and determination of the Swedish, whom are in the final 16. I have a soft sport for Scandinavians. Brazil are in the final 16, and they're starting to look dangerous because they're growing in confidence and starting to play the fast style with lots of attacking flair we're used to seeing. Argentina barely scraped into the final 16 , they have a team of great individuals whom are not playing great as a team. Japan is the only team from the Asian conference to make the final 16. Australia did their usual thing of blaming the referees and their foreign coach (even though Australia went over 30 years without qualifying for the world cup with mainly Australian coaches, but qualified for the past 4 world cups with foreign coaches). France look dangerous, they play a fast smooth style, but they've only won 1 world cup and have a history of falling in the finals. Belgium look very good, and this is a golden generation of players for them. While this video isn't from the world cup, it shows a funny compilation of diving and faking injuries

'Surprised' Serena thanks Wimbledon for seeding boost
I can’t stand Serena Williams. She is a terrible sportsman and constantly whines and makes excuses. She’s athletic and she dominates in the sport but she acts entitled AF. She pitched a toddler fit when the French Open followed their rules and refused to seed her. Now she’s “grateful” that Wimbledon bent the rules for her. What about the rightful 25th seed woman, Dominika Cibulkova who got bumped so she could have the spot she didn’t earn? Serena’s overall record should mean shit to this season. Due to taking time off to have a child and for an injury, she didn’t earn the needed spot in the rankings to be seeded. This would be like me demanding a raise from my employer without having done anything to earn it.

It's Affirmative Action Tennis.

Japan led 2-0 in the 2nd half of the world cup playoff but lost to the star-studded Belgium team. Great result nonetheless for Japan, whom progressed farther than expected, but can't help to feel this was a lost opportunity for them, because winning would have put Japan in the final 8 remaining teams, and only 3 wins away from a world championship.
Japan has made the final 16 on 2 prior occasions, so a top 8 spot would have been Japan's best result.
Shocked to see Spain lose to Russia. Especially since Spain played much more creative football, where as Russia's lone goal came from a penalty, but Spain could only score 1 goal, and then lost in penalty shoot outs.
France beat Argentina,4-3 , after Argentina led 2-1 in the 2nd half. France play a very fast and smooth attacking style, surprised more people aren't talking them up more.
Brazil beat Mexico 2-0. A very patchy performance by Brazil, but to win 2-0 against quality opposition shows the potential of this Brazilian team.
Sad to see Portugal (the European champions)lose to Uruguay , which will likely by Ronaldo's world cup.
Croatia beat Denmark in a pretty dull match, where both teams played defensive football.
Upcoming is England vs Columbia and Sweden vs Switzerland.
England will likely win, but I'm hoping Columbia will win, because I can't stand the English fans who boast about how great they think England are at soccer , but they've only won 1 world cup (under controversial circumstances) back in 1966, yet Brazil has won 5, Germany and Italy have won 4 each etc.
Don't know much about the Swiss and Swedish football teams, except Sweden have looked good in the matches I've seen, and I like Scandinavians so I'll go for Sweden.

I feared Serena might die, says husband You know I can’t say I’ve seen one single article talking about the woman who actually won Wimbledon this year. But I’ve seen multiple articles about Serena post Wimbledon loss. Worst sportsmanship ever. What is the media obsession?

Congrats on France for winning the soccer world cup. They were actually my pick at the start of the tournament because of the fast and smooth style they have.
The final was a scrappy affair , with 2 of the goals France scored being directly caused by opposition mistakes, but in the 2nd half, France blew Croatia away with 2 quick goals from attacking brilliance.
We may not like the immigration policies France has, but this mostly black French team sure is fast, and it's known blacks are genetically faster, but African teams tend to play a poor tactical game, but black players with a white coach and European-implemented tactics was a dangerous combination.
Anyways, this is France's 2nd world cup win, their first came in 1998, 20 years ago. And their 3rd world cup final appearance(they lost the final of the 2006 world cup) and they also won a European championship in 2000, and made the final of the 2016 Euro cup. So the past 20 years have been tremendous for French soccer.

As for Wimbledon. Congrats on Angelique Kerber, her 3rd grand slam victory and first Wimbledon. She did a Serena on Serena and blew Serena away in straight sets with a power game. I was hoping Kerber would win, because I thought she deserved to win a Wimbledon title, after losing 2 Wimbledon finals previously. I remember when Kerber was given no chance of beating Serena in the Australian open final a couple of years ago, but managed to do it. She is a real fighter.
Congrats of Novak( I can't be bothered spelling his last name), for winning Wimbledon. Many people wrote you off, saying you'd never win another grand slam, but I knew you'd eventually start winning major tournaments again after your body had time to recover from injuries and you found some confidence. You won one of the most toughest semi finals I've seen against one of the best players of all time in Nadal, and you brought your A game to beat Anderson in the final. Well done on Anderson making the final, because Anderson beat Federer on his way to the final.

I'm the opposite, I wanted to see England lose, because English soccer fans are often full of themselves, and many of my Thai female friends support England because they have English boyfriends and are naive enough to listen to their English boyfriends talk about ''how great England are at soccer''. I remember the English soccer fans cheering when Germany was eliminated from the world cup. Pretty distasteful, since the German fans are humble, despite Germany being the defending champions and having won 4 world cups in the past. I've noticed English men feel threatened by German men, because German men have that square chin that Thai women love, and Germany make better cars than the English.

Serena Williams hits out again I will say it again, terrible sportsmanship. For someone who wins as much as she does she sure complains A LOT. You know why you get tested so much, Serena? It's because unlike your competition, you're built like a linebacker and your win to loss ratio is tilted like no other in the sport, man or woman. There is no point testing 10 times a year on the guy who's coming in 20th place. He's not showing wins at a ratio to indicate that he might be cheating. To her everything thrown her way is somehow people picking on her. The French Open didn't seed her, you know because of the fact that she took a year off between having a baby and injury and didn't earn a seed spot. The league reserves the right to test her any time day or night and 47 times if they think it's needed, and actually decides to take up on the practice to show they've done their due diligence due to her high profile status. Oh WELL... those things are just discrimination because she's black and a woman. When you've got high profile athletes like Lance Burton who managed to fool the testers for years it's important to show good faith. As someone who wants to show that its a "clean sport" you think she would be more understanding given her standing and the attention she gets from the media.

Without any reference to her ethnicity at all, Serena looks like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Her muscles have muscles. She isn't built like a tennis player at all, she looks more like a wrestler or weight lifter. There's not too many women that I feel could best me in a fight... Serena could mash me into itty bitty meatballs. If this was the 80s she'd be on the East German Olympic team. Look; here's Serena:
