Nier Automatra is a fantastic game that if you haven't given a shot I really thing you need to. This game pretty much sets the series in a very positive direction and its story tellin is of course on par with the first game. The first thing that really jumps out and grabs me his how much the machines, some are peace loving some are ones you have no choice but to fight. They try hard to understand and ultimately emulate human emotion. Its a bit odd to see these robots engage in human tasks that they really have no concept of. The game doesn't sugar code it, there is one point in the game where we actually see robots engaging in sexual acts, such as having sex or giving head its a bit disturbing, but some how adds to the games charm. There is also some dialogue exchanged where the characters talk about 9S's true feelings of want to have sex with 2B. Aside from the weird references the characters are very interesting, while I could argue that characters in the first game were better. I don't think it is up for comparisons as Automatra is a different story entirely and the character fit well into this story. The game is split into "endings" which are basically separate campaigns adding more to the story. 2B and 9S go through the same part of the game but when playing it with 9S not only do we get a different perspective of what is going on in the game at moments he is outside the part of his take on things, we get to see into the mind of some of the enemies that we fight and all of the sudden they seem less hostile and have motive for fighting, making you feel bad for killing them. This is something that the first Nier game did as well after you went back and played it. The game hits hard in ending C and raises the stakes and gives that Yoko Taro fashion, of heartache. There are some nods the the first game, as well as a Drakengard, but they are small and aren't required to play. Emil's cameo is a nice easter egg and while I won't spoil it for everyone there is a nice other little easter egg to Nier that completeing a sidequest for Emil plays. Music and all accompanies it and it was amazing. I'd highly recommend picking up this game as it is well worth it.

Sounds like Platinum did a great job with this game, they're known for making awesome slick combat, and it sounds like it really shows in NIER Automatra . The thing with the robots sounds interesting, the fact they're trying to behave like humans sounds like it could add an extra emotional element, since the story is set in a post apocalyptic world and seeing the robots acting this way could make the player feel a different type of loneliness.
I need to get around to this game one day, since I'm a big fan of NIER,and I enjoyed Drakengard 3,so I like anything to do with this universe.

You would be able to hop right in and understand what is going on. Consider this takes place thousands of years it doesnt really touch upon events from the first game.
