A PLAGUE TALE: INNOCENCE -- PLATINUM EARNEDWow. You know, I actually stayed up until 6:00 in the morning to finish the game and nab the trophies, and I'm nursing a heavy video game hangover as I write this. I had to do this during my Thursday off from work and burn a whole lot of midnight oil to get this done. And I had to use an online guide, too, to figure out how to unlock certain trohpies, and that was before I ended up having to replay specific chapters and backtracking more than I wanted to. Needless to say, it was exhausting, irritating and frustratingly exhausting. Yet, in spite of it all, I feel the inevitable sense of empowerment having tackled and conquered yet another difficult gaming challenge. But, the game gets irritating in the latter half. I don't use that term loosely. I'd retire early for every dollar I had using every available swear word in the human vocabulary. For example---there were two major boss fights that ended up being a bigger pain in the ass than I expected. There's this ability that Hugo learns during the game where he can control the rats and have it so that they don't eat you alive and cause insta-death when you walk over them. I had to use the rats to defeat two bosses----Lord Nicholas and Vitalis (the last boss). Let's just say it's not quite as fun as it sounds. The fact that you die in one hit and have no health bar, even during boss encounters, while dealing with a clunky menu when attempting to switch between Rats, Rocks and Crafting is enough to make Sekiro look fairly easy. I spent roughly one hour trying to kill the final boss before finally learning his attack patterns and chucking one last rock on his forehead to send him straight to hell. I also had to replay the last two chapters to nab the very last trophy -- crafting my Items bag. I had fully upgraded my sling to get the "Not a Toy Anymore" but by the time I reached the very end, I didn't have enough materials to fully upgrade my Items pouch, which is required for "Handfull of Pockets". Ugh..... Overall.......I liked this game. I liked the experience. The storytelling is outstanding. Amicia and Hugo have some of the best character development in any video game I've played to date, so suffice it for me to say that I will miss them both very much, as now I'm moving on to another game, and another platinum. I don't think I'll ever play A Plague Tale again, but I'm keeping it in my library----and I'll never forget it. My current Platinum collection is as follows: >>A Plague Tale: Innocence>>Trine 3 >>Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice >>Uncharted 4: A Thief's End >>Sly Cooper (PS3) >>Sly Cooper 2 (PS3) >>Sly Cooper 3 (PS3)

ASSASSIN'S CREED ODYSSEY -- PLATINUM EARNEDAnother Plat to add to my trophy case! It was the perfect excuse to return to a game that I have been playing for eleven months. Well, y'all know how devoted I was to it. Funny thing is, when I first got around to playing, I NEVER imagined in my wildest dreams that I would ever get the Platinum trophy. Never. This is a huge open world AAA game, twice the size of Origins, with tons to do. Me getting a Platinum for a game like Odyssey would be the day hell froze over. Maybe it did tonight, and pigs still aren't flying. I only had to sweep up six trophies to earn the Plat, and it took me seven hours. It was laborious, but nowhere near frustrating as my last Plat (A Plague Tale). I think it's because I'm so accustomed to Odyssey, and it felt like familiar territory. And, good thing Kassandra can climb over damn near everything, even mountains and steep cliffs. Fast travel was a heavensend. But I am SO over the grinding and collect-a-thons. The tedium was settling in, broken up only by quests that required me to fight. I didn't even bother stealthing Spartan and Athenian camps----I just went in and killed everyone in sight, and paid the Bounties to get the Mercs off my back. Additionally, I think I romanced Xenia, and had a couple of debates with Hippokrates. With everything said and done, does this mean my journey with Kassandra is completely over? Not necessarily. I haven't touched on the DLC, nor have I even stepped foot in Atlantis, so I'm planning on doing that at a later date. That's a grand adventure and a few more trophies for another time. So, no......Kassandra isn't done just yet. I'm going to be stepping away from Odyssey for a while----probably a long while---until the day I come back to complete it fully, right before the next Assassin's Creed and their vikings (?) comes calling.

Props dude. I just eventually flat gave up on Origins so I don’t know how I will fair with Odyssey. It’s sitting waiting for me in my backlog with all the DLC. I haven’t even looked at the platinum requirements but I can imagine it was daunting.

To call it daunting is an understatement, Dorbs----one of the trophies requires you to find all the Underwater treasure locations (Child of Poseidon) , while another has you filling out and exploring the ENTIRE MAP, even the small islands off the coast of bigger islands (Hermes' Homie) It took me an entire year to pop 60% of the trophies, and all of last night to finally finish the rest. And one of the trophies is missable. Fortunately, that one (Aphrodite's Embrace, where you have to sleep with an NPC when prompted) gives you a bunch of chances to do so. They weren't kidding when they tell us Odyssey is twice the size of Origins, so that being said, as much as I'd like for you to play Odyssey, it isn't any easier than Origins

BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT --- PLATINUM EARNED
I only had to sweep up four of these, but two of them took me three hours to get. The first one, Item Collector----I had to do an insane amount of grinding, crafting, disassembling, more grinding, more crafting, more disassembling and even more grinding to finish the Item collection list of every available Weapon, Armor, Accessory, Item, Recipe and Ingredient to be found in the game. Fortunately, all I really needed to worry about were the weapons and armor, but even that took a long time. It grew tedious, but I was actually having a bit of fun doing it---being a Metroidvania and all, a subgenre that I enjoy holistically. After getting that trophy, I swept up two simple ones (Bloodstained, Kickstopper) , which only took a few seconds, before concentrating on the final trophy before the Plat. It was a Common one, called Usurper, but one I missed during my first playthrough. I only recently discovered how to get it, and that was before I realized I had to start a new save file from the beginning to do so. That might have been a major source of aggravation were it not for the New Game plus---which allows me to carry over most but not all of my hard-earned stuff (Levels, Armor, Weapons, Items), making my second playthrough-and-a-half a whole lot easier. With that in mind, I did what I thought I'd never do----speed run halfway to a specific point. I spammed Accelerator, killed bosses quickly, skipped dialogue and reached that all-encompassing point where I had completely missed that one little common trophy standing between me and the Platinum. What I had to do was kill Gebel directly with the Zangetsuto sword and not strike at the moon in the background. Estimated time of completion: one hour and twenty five minutes. Bottom line----I really enjoyed Bloodstained. It doesn't hold a candle to Symphony of the Night in my opinion, but it is a worthy successor to that legacy. And having the man behind SOTN certainly didn't hurt.

When they say Bloodstained is a spiritual successor to SOTN, they meant it. There are a ton of neat SOTN easter eggs in this game, and you'll feel right at home here.

A New Game Joins my Backlog: PERSONA 5
Tried a bit of this tonight.....it's actually quite fun. I like it!
It almost felt like a high-school simulator at first, and other parts felt like watching an anime, but it's all RPG. The story so far is intriguing. The combat system is totes bananas. More on this soon.....

Is this your first Persona? Most definitely my first. Never played the series before until now. As JRPGs go, Persona is a pack leader. I've played 3, 4, and Catherine (which is in the same universe) and they are all excellent.

SPIDER MAN -- PLATINUM EARNEDFINALLY achieved the Platinum for this! And, as with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, I never imagined I could get it. Yet, I did, and I feel pretty damn proud for completing yet another challenging endeavor. The last time I finished Spider Man was sometime back in November of last year. I considered gunning for the Platinum back then, but I got too frustrated with the requirements of one of the trophies (A Suit for All Seasons) I needed to buy two more suits, and I was short on Challenge Tokens, and the only way to get them is to do those Taskmaster challenges. Those were a monumental pain in the ass, and that's the nicest thing I can say about them. They wouldn't have been as hard if they weren't timed, and I had to beat specific tiers to get the amount of Challenge Tokens I needed to earn enough for the Ghost Spidey and Foundation Spidey suits. FORTUNATELY, I didn't have to earn the Gold for all of them, just a few of my choosing. Rather than waste my time with the Drone and Bomb challenges, I tackled the ones I knew I could do with the least amount of frustration. For as long as I've been swinging around in NYC, I still can't get proper handling on web-swinging dynamics, and during the Drone and Bomb challenges, that handicap worked against me as time was my biggest enemy. So, upon realizing I didn't even have to do them for the amount of Tokens I needed anyway (plus the fact that I wasn't going to bother hundred-percenting the suit upgrades) I took part in the Stealth and Combat challenges. Frustrating, yes, at first, but a hell of a lot better than the Drone and Bomb ones I wasted my time on. Stealth and combat were my bread and butter throughout the entire experience. After an hour or so, I earned the tokens to buy the remainder of the suits, and reacted with glee when the "Suit for All Seasons" Gold Trophy popped. After that, it was time to clean up with three more Trophies, and they were relatively easy. "Hug it Out" -- I merely revisited a Fisk Hideout and used my Trip Mines on enemies that were close together Had to do that 10 times before the Trophy clicked. "Sticky and Tricky" -- I just leapt off the highest building I could find, held down the Triangle and Circle button and did four airborne tricks before hitting the ground. "Spider-Man About Town"? Spammed the Square button on NYC citizens walking around. And finally, I saved this one for last "With Great Power"---paying my respects to Uncle Ben at his gravesite. {Spoiler}It was even more poignant when Aunt May is buried right next to him.
My time with Spidey is over, for now, but man, what a time I had with this. On to the next Platinum..... >>A Plague Tale: Innocence >>Trine 3 >>Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice >>Uncharted 4: A Thief's End >>Sly Cooper (PS3) >>Sly Cooper 2 (PS3) >>Sly Cooper 3 (PS3) >>A Plague Tale: Innocence >>Assassin's Creed Odyssey >>Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night >>Spider Man
