This guy's reddit post is all the review I need.
I am loving this game! It's hard, and rough, but so satisfying when you get it right.
The Jungle is MINE, boys. After a very rough patch where I had only one clan member (I mismanaged the previous generation... only had one baby and it was a male, there was only one female and she became an elder (therefore no more babies) when I went in to the next generation. Just me and mum.
Mum and I were the last of our clan, 435,000 years in the making and on the verge of death. Our first oasis camp was left behind centuries ago, we had moved to a new location that we THOUGHT was safe, but a lone Lion was stalking our camp multiple times a day. It took me well over 2 and a half hours of managing resources, crafting and planning to take down the Lion... at the cost of my mother's life.
It was storming when I killed it. For days it had been coming and going, trying to catch me off guard... but I was ready. With 3 sharp sticks already in its back, I had two more in my hands as I shouted to intimidate the beast, making it sprint towards me. In an epic scene, I impaled the Lion with one stick, and stabbed it to death with the other, FINALLY making my camp safe... but I was alone.
I healed up, ate, drank, and ventured to the treetops to find some lone wanderers to recruit. I found two more apes, a male and a female, and after exchanging some food, they followed me back.
Two generations later, I'm back up to 12 active clan members, and have a war-party of 5 males that follow me around with 2 sticks each, with one of them always carrying the healing fibers.
This jungle is my bitch. Huge crocodile in the Big Swamp? Eviscerated. Giant Python near Two Sisters Arches? Delicious. A black panther AND two warthogs at once? Destroyed.
I feel like fucking Caesar from Planet of the Apes. This game is amazing.
TL;DR - Clan was on the brink of extinction. Learned how to fight, lost my mother but killed the Lion that took her from me. Clawed back from the brink of annihilation to become the king of the Jungle.
