I only had the one day off, but I made some decent video gamey use of it.
First I met and hung out (online) with another For Honor player who dragged me back into PVP long enough for me to realize how damn rusty I am! I did all right in 4v4 matches, decidedly less well in 1 on 1s! Took on Arcade mode with both him and Solanna the next morning. kungfubunny9876 there's a lot of fun to be found in co-op vs the bots! I think it's safe to say Sol and I had a great time.
Speaking of which, Sol and I played for hours with no lag at all, despite being about as far apart as two people can get on Earth. It was a lot of fun, but she made me do all the talking! (So, kinda like you, Bunneh.)
I spent much of the rest of the day with a different friend delving into Ghost Recon Wildlands. It had its frustrating moments; the game is "sort of" co-op. Your 4 man squad of capable bots goes away, completely, so it was just the two of us. We seemed to both be playing our respective games so if I found a gun part or a medal that he had already gotten it was just invisible to him. Also if we both needed it then we BOTH had to go pick it up. Between that and markings made on the map by the other person not showing up for the partner I realize now that the game intends for one of you to be completely in charge. What was neat was the fact that we were not tethered together in any way. I left him to steal a plane to deliver to the rebels and flew MILES away from him while he kept on hunting weapon parts and it didn't affect either of us. I could have just set my own markers and went off on my own. It was a blast and we got into some crazy shit, including a race between him in a helicopter and me in a parachute! (Spoiler: I won.) After a few hours we finally got our cooperation together well enough that we functioned like a deadly duo.
This morning I have bought this:
If you know me then you know Conan is my thing, and this looks to be essentially D&D: The Board Game. Comprised of combat scenarios where one player takes the role of the "Overlord" and controls all the hero-killing enemies and the others become 1-4 heroes, including the legendary Conan. The game system has a novel approach of using energy gems for all actions so movement, combat, even the ability to soak damage are all tied to the gems you possess. You can get exhausted and have to lay low and wait for your gems (stamina) to regenerate or, if you take damage, you may have your maximum gems reduced.
That and I finally bought this:
When I went to Spartacon and hung out with actor Liam McIntyre (Spartacus) he introduced me to this game he and his friend made. I even bought a few special edition cards, but I never invested in the card game. It's rather simple, and younger kids can play it so that was my final selling point.
All in all it was a good day off. A day where I did NOTHING but play games with friends. Not too shabby.
