EA Shuts Down Visceral Games (Dead Space, Single-Player Star Wars Project)That Amy Hennig lead Star Wars game is not dead buts its switching over from Visceral to EA Vancouver and will no longer be a single player story driven game but instead is switching to a "long-term games as a service model" whatever that's supposed to mean. My guess would be something more like Star Wars TOR or Destiny maybe. Something they can bilk for regular infusions of cash with DLC expansions. They've also shifted the release date from 2019 to undefined. So yeah. We might just have another Star Wars 1313 on our hands. Damn it EA. What don't you ruin?

The individual game elements are fun but there is a lot of it to the point that it becomes a real grind. If you're not careful it can really put you off from playing as I very nearly just abandoned the game because of it. But I decided to push thru and I'm nearly done with all the side map clutter now. Definitely worth a buy on the cheap as that's how I picked it up. Ok cool thanks. endorbr SteampunkNoir@tidusandyuna1983 Katzenbalger All you guys who played Mad Max, here's a prequel comic that I found crazy interesting. I may go back to Mad Max tonight.

Pretty cool. I'm still pretty astounded that they even made a Mad Max game (and that it wasn't some quickly hashed together mess).

Though, this being EA, it was inevitable. Now I'm sad because we won't get any more Dead Space - I was kinda hoping for a remastered trilogy (or at least just the first two).

So I'm looking to start a new game. I've got three I'm considering from my backlog. I am some what reluctant to move into Horizon Zero Dawn after Mad Max as it was an open world collectible fest and I don't like to put types of games that are similar back to back to avoid fatigue. Prey would shift things to a 1st person perspective and has more of that Bioshock kind of vibe. God of War 3 is straight up action. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I played a little more of The Dwarves last night. Great game, super hard, but it sticks pretty close to the excellent novel so far. I got myself in a heap of shit last night that I couldn't fight my way out of so, yeah, this is how I felt.

I'd say go for God of War - it's short and straight to the point and would probably work as a good palette cleanser. Horizon is goo but as you say it's another open world game with lots of stuff to loot/collect. As for Prey, it's good but it's surprisingly long and does lose steam (I still haven't finished it but it's starting to test my patience).

I'm a bit of a Sci Fi fan,so I would go for Prey, although God of War 3 has it's good points such as ginormous enemies and lets you bang Aphrodite.

In an apparent effort to reduce believability and increase juvenile fun For Honor will make an announcement today about the Feast of the Otherworld; a halloween themed event. While speculation runs rampant there is an area that was added in customization that says "Masks" so I've got a pretty good idea what this is.
I don't mind a little camp now and then, but I fear with the way Ubisoft is treating For Honor this may be a slippery slope. Take a look at these trailers released in advance of For Honor's release that shows Vandenberghe's vision for the game he poured ten years of his life into:
and
Those set a pretty specific tone. But under Roman Campos-Oriola (who joined visionary Vanderberghe as Creative Director just prior to launch and displaced him after Season 1) look what the reality in For Honor is:
See the difference in visions? Vandenberghe created the idea of For Honor after witnessing and being invited to learn actual longsword combat... like this:
And from there he spent ten years building the idea of For Honor and finding a studio and publisher for it. But all Roman wants is for For Honor to be a goddamn E-sport; something akin to Call of Duty or even Street Fighter.
Maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy who resists change, but all I want out of For Honor is a chance to relive my glory days of swordfighting at the Renaissance Faires. That was a golden time in my life and I miss it ALL the time. For Honor does a pretty good job; the basics are solid and recognizable to me; a trained stage-combat fighter. I guess that's why I've played it near exclusively for 10 months. For Honor gives me something that no other game has. My biggest fer now is that its gonna keep giving me stuff that I don't want.

Sucks that they're essentially cheapening it. Reminds me of all those weapon skins in Call of Duty games.
And I really don't understand why every single multiplayer game these days tries to go the esports route. It's not really something you can force, the community has to build itself. And it's not as though throwing money at it is going to help - Overwatch sold like gangbusters and has a huge community, but it's 'esports' push is floundering hard. Yet everything from For Honor to freaking Lawbreakers is pushing to become an esport.

Speaking of: Lawbreakers, my current favourite source of schadenfreude and something I take delight in mentioning.
It's a multiplayer online shooter from the guy who made Gears of War that's flopped as hard as it's possible to flop. Cliff Blezinski, who hit it huge with the Gears of War series on Xbox 360, split off to create his own independent studio, aiming to focus on 'hardcore gamers' and esports with an edgy multiplayer shooter. The borderline non-existent marketing push was all obnoxious, throwing shade at the competition while constantly bragging about how only skilled gamers could play it. The game was slated for PC and PS4, not Xbox (where all his fans are) and he basically called disappointed Xbox fans crybabies. He also talked about game pricing, saying that his game would be sold at the 'impulse purchase' price of $30 USD.
Lawbreakers released to positive reviews but nobody freaking bought it. It was basically stealth released on PS4, and now, barely over a month since release, the online community is well and truly deceased. How deceased? Last week the player count on PC was at only 130, while the lowest it's been is 10. That's ten people playing an online-only multiplayer shooter that had only released 28 days earlier. Now Cliffy B is scrambling, making excuses in interviews (he really seemed to think the price point would have made people flock to his game) and avoiding any mention of going free-to-play.
Cliffy B also seems to be in denial. Apparently this week they released an update that added a 'ranked match' mode. A ranked mode for a shooter that has a peak player count that only barely reaches triple digits. For some reason I take great delight that this failed so bad, and I don't really understand why. I like Gears of War, and apparently the gameplay in Lawbreakers is meant to be quite fun, but I just like how something can fail like this.
