So who else would have been onboard with a 1996 version of Shadows of the Empire starring Edward Norton as Prince Xizor, Helen Hunt as Guri the human-replica droid assassin, and Nicolas Goddamn Cage as the Han Solo knockoff Dash Rendar? That last one is such a perfect casting I would use a time machine to go back and make this movie if I could. Interesting casting but I would have paid good money to see that movie get made.

I'm going to drop this shows praises again. If you haven't seen it and you have Netflix give it a look. It's sort of one part Firefly, one part Farscape... plus a mix of other general sci-fi shows.

I watched a pretty topical episode of The Orville last night that was an attempt at tackling the serious downsides of social media. The crew comes across a civilization that closely mirrors 21st century Earth except their entire government and legal system is based on rule by social acceptance through social media feed. Everyone wears an up and down vote button affixed to their clothes and everyone is freely encouraged to up or down vote a persons every word and action. Any recorded interaction is immediately uploaded to "the feed" and viewable by all to be voted upon. Anyone who receives more than 1 million down votes is considered guilty of a crime and arrested. They are then forced to go on an apology tour in which they must make a talk show like circuit to attempt to sway the viewership ala American Idol style to vote in their favor. If they receive 10 million down votes they are sent for re-education which is essentially an electric chair device that more or less lobotomizes the person to make their actions more socially acceptable. The show did a pretty good job of showing how mob rule and a social order based entirely upon people's perceptions rather than logic and facts is not a desirable way to live.

Anybody watch Stranger Things? Season 2 is out. Or, as it should be called, Season Deja Vu, since it hit a lot of similar beats and moments. I liked it well enough. I enjoyed the first season as well, but it never grabbed me as the phenomenon it's been to a lot of people. I'd say they probably could have cut things down a bit and had a really tight and concise six or seven episodes. But it's fun enough viewing at nine episodes.

I'm trying to finish season 3 of Dark Matter first.

Next show up for me. I'm trying to finish season 3 of Dark Matter first. It's worth watching, especially if you enjoyed the first season, but it does feel like they're re-treading some of the same ground at times. And the 80s atmosphere is still great.

I would love to see some more in the Stargate universe but I don't think this is really what I want to see. This is more a story about how they found the Stargate in Egypt. While it has an interesting Indiana Jones kind of vibe it honestly doesn't really have anything to do with Stargate. Besides that it just a series of 10 minute webisodes.

I could never get into Atlantis. Honestly Stargate was one of those movies that was just better by itself. I swear though in the theater Ra's whites of his eyes NEVER stopped glowing, then we get to the DVD and they only glow for emphasis.

I just finished watching this on Netflix. Overall a good movie. Worth 2 hours of your time. Bit of sci-fi dystopia, bit of who-dun-it, bit of shoot-em-up, bit of sexy nudie time with Noomi Rapace. A little cliche maybe because you figure the climax out from a mile away but overall good. One thing I noted though. Glenn Close plays the "villain" in this. The gist is this future dystopia has a serious over population problem and she figure out the solution. I can't shake that she seems exactly like what we would have got if Hillary Clinton had won the election. Unapologetic and uncaring with a cold merciless stare, the whole time believing she's doing what she feels is best for everyone and that no one else could do it right. That we are all doomed without her. I'll take the loud mouth who never met a gold mirror he didn't like.

Never heard of it (and it doesn't look like it's on the Aussie Netflix) but if Noomi Rapace is in it I'm interested. Poster gives me a little Orphan Black vibe.
