Going to go see Thor 3 with some buddies tomorrow night. Looking forward to it, mostly because of the director, Taika Waititi, a New Zealander who made a bunch of quirky comedies I enjoyed (What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople). Now that he's helming a blockbuster I'm hoping for the best.

It won't be out here until November 2nd so it will probably be next weekend or the week after before I go to see it. Let us know how it goes.

Marvel movies tend to open early here, which is one of the few times we win when it comes to theatres. Often we lose - most horror movies don't play at theatres here (usually straight-to-DVD) and a whole bunch of stuff gets delayed releases (we got John Wick 2 four months after you guys).

You know I honestly wasn't really expecting anything different but this just looks like a CGI explode-a-thon in your face. Maybe its just the way this trailer is cut but somehow I doubt it and I bet a significant portion of the movie is just too much stuff on screen for you to adequately take it in.

Back from seeing Thor 3 and I really enjoyed it. Might need a few days before I form a solid opinion, but it's definitely positive. Easily the best of the Thor movies (not that that's too hard). It does have its issues regarding pacing and structure (it's a little all over the place at times, which isn't bad per se), has some of the same Marvel movie problems (some moments are very 'previous film reference' heavy) and some of the character stuff didn't quite work for me (one part in particular towards the very end), but overall it's a lot of fun, and fully embraces the weirdness of Asgard and the Gods. It's also very funny - they've refigured Thor into more of a humorous character than he's been in the other films. There are some fun cameo appearances. It also shakes things up in pretty big ways. If you were worried about it being a Guardians of the Galaxy ripoff, don't fret too much - while there are some superficial similarities (aliens and space ships and all that glorious colour) it has its own feel. And the soundtrack is almost exclusively 80s synth.
For those who wanted confirmation, there are two end credits scenes, one partway through the credits and then a ten second joke scene at the very end.

Not that that's surprising, especially considering the whole Snyder leaving/Whedon taking over thing (having two directors with vastly differing filmmaking styles/aesthetics film half a film and then splicing together is gonna be morbidly fascinating). Though it does just look like an uglier, night-time version of the Avengers, complete with generic alien invaders.
But, y'know, maybe they need to make a mess to make it all work eventually. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks ugly and messy as hell (those monsters look like Gears of War rejects), but maybe they just need to squeeze this turd out so they can move on from it and finally start making better movies.

I just think the tonal shift between the first and second half of this movie is going to be a mess. Since the DCEU only really established Superman and Wonder Woman in a significant way and this version of Batman as half of Superman's second movie and the other characters as nothing but a brief cameo how do we go from zero with these incarnations of most of these guys to cohesive team taking on Darkseid's (one of DC Comics biggest bads) army of Apokolips with no big screen lead up to who that even is in a movie who's run time reportedly clocks in under 2 hours with credits included for crying out loud? Plus you know they'll have to bring Superman back from the dead by movie's end and you know they won't be able to leave this movie stand alone and will have to cram in more universe building for future movies so this movie is probably going to feel bloated and jumbled with too much too fast. Marvel has at least been teasing Thano's since the first Avengers so it will be no surprise when he finally shows up in Avengers 3.

Even Wonder Woman was okay at best. All of this pales next to even the first Thor movie.

Marvel has at least been teasing Thano's since the first Avengers so it will be no surprise when he finally shows up in Avengers 3. It's a problem of their own creation, since they tried to rush directly into a superhero team-up movie with BvS without properly establishing who those superheroes were. With the exception of Superman of course, who they royally fucked up anyway (he spent most of his two movies whining about being Superman). Wonder Woman worked in the aftermath but I feel that's mostly because DC had no faith in it and weren't expecting it to blow up the way it did (it's telling how the Justice League trailers after that movie focus on her way more than the earlier trailers).
The Whedon dialogue is definitely going to clash horrifically with the overblown Snyder visuals.

So who else would have been onboard with a 1996 version of Shadows of the Empire starring Edward Norton as Prince Xizor, Helen Hunt as Guri the human-replica droid assassin, and Nicolas Goddamn Cage as the Han Solo knockoff Dash Rendar? That last one is such a perfect casting I would use a time machine to go back and make this movie if I could.
