The Sega Saturn failed in the west, but it was the most successful SEGA console in Japan. I bought one when I was a teenager, because I like Japanese games, however, after I moved from Asia to Australia, I noticed a difference in tastes, as people in Australia mocked the hell out of me for buying a Saturn, and also mocked my reasoning (even though those same people said they like Final Fantasy 7 and Tekken and GT, because they didn't know those games are Japanese).
Anyways, I love the Saturn despite what people say. Lets not forget the Sega Genesis got outsold by the Turbo Grafix in Japan, but the Turbo Grafix failed in the west, and the Genesis was seen as much better.
Some consoles sell well in Asia that don't sell well in the west, such as the Neo Geo.
Back to the Saturn, I was a fan of Phantasy Star and Shining Force on the Genesis, and the Saturn also has one of my favorite 5th gen RPGs in Panzer Dragoon Saga. Fighting games were better on the Saturn because the extra memory allowed for tag team modes in X Men vs Street Fighter.

Super Mario World vs. Yoshi's Island Which is the better SNES platformer?videochums.com/article/super-mario-world-vs-yoshis-island---------------------------------- Yoshi's island has more depth to it's gameplay, and it's visual style is still a delight. However, I still find Super Mario World to be more fun, because of the level designs and it's more flowing style of gameplay.

Super Mario World is more fun I think in terms of platforming and finding secrets. Yoshi's Island is very atmospheric and enjoyable it also has alot of unique gameplay to it. The art style is still one of my favorites.

It had so much potential, if only Sega didn't royally screw up by launching it early. The move angered a lot of third party companies as well as toy retail outlets, prompting them to withdraw their support. That hurt them terribly. Plus, the Saturn just wasn't as powerful as the PlayStation, sporting a weaker architecture that was hastily put together. Not even some excellent first party games like Panzer Dragoon Saga and Guardian Heroes were enough to help it.

Yeah, that hurt them, too, big time. It gave Sony the ammo it needed when the PlayStation came out and totally rocked the Saturn out of the stratosphere.

Interestingly, Sega of Amerca were against releasing it early, but Sega of Japan wanted to and pushed for it. Many people don't after Nintendo backed out of the deal of doing a joint console with Sony , Sony approached SEGA and asked SEGA to do a joint console, but SEGA of Japan said '' Sony doesn't know anything about video games''.

I've got SO many SNES games that aren't first party XD Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III (VI) are obvious choices, but there are some obscure standouts---like Super Double Dragon and Axelay.
