Getting some real Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight and Force Unleashed vibes. Looks like the glory days of LucasArts. Definitely in the top of my most wanted list at the moment.

"the game developers thought about having either an alien or female protagonist, but Kestis was ultimately used because they didn't want to "alienate" the player nor have a female protagonist competing with Rey, the sequel trilogy's protagonist."
- Personally, I'd have been fine with either. In fact, I kind of think it's a missed opportunity to not have him be alien. Like with so many games, I would have appreciated a choice, at least, in his design. Not that I dislike Cal as he is, but my Shepard was female and she was AWESOME.
Making him a Twi'lek or Trandoshan would have been a bold step.

Weird that this is where we find ourselves in current year. That this is the crap that developers are wasting their time thinking about. That this is the crap that games "journalists" waste their time asking questions about. Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy had a character creator that let you choose your characters species, sex, etc. and that came out back in 2003. The character had a gender neutral name, Jaden Korr that was Star Wars enough to also cross species without anyone thinking it odd. Honestly Cal Kestis doesn't exactly scream that it has to be a white human male either. Of course they didn't mo-cap for Jedi Academy the way they have for Fallen Order and I 100% get a developer wanting to tell their story. But if you're going to make a big deal out of the specifics of the character or let the media or feminutzi LGBTQLMNOP games "journalists" make a big deal about it then they could have easily avoided the problem by letting the player decide the look of their character.
